Around the time Summer hits its peak,  has fixed another tasty daytime installment of the BASK series at The Standard rooftop Downtown. This time around BASK will feature two headliners, each from either side of the Atlantic. A warm welcome is in order for Berlin veteran MATT JOHN, of Perlon, Bar 25, and Circoloco fame. A king of extended after hour sets (like the 30 hour set at Bar 25 on his 30th birthday!), Matt is focused on taking the audience on a journey through soundscapes of minimal, house, and techno. His style was been described by Groove magazine as “New School Hyperkinetic”, with no definition as to what it meant! Why New School? His sound is rather classical, based on an old form of techno, also with attributes of minimal and Detroit. A musical expert like this will undoubtedly deliver a “Holographic” closing set on the rooftop! Sharing the headlining duties is New York based duo THUGFUCKER (Greg Oreck, and Holmar Filipsson). A former international aid worker teams up with Icelandic security specialist and former top model to create an international DJ super group. Certainly not what you’d expect from a group called Thugfucker, although the duo has been making their markson festivals all over the world in 2011. Simply put, they play music that turns you on, freaks you out, moves your ass or whatever else makes you feel good…just as long as you’re having fun. Greg is half responsible for running the label Life and Death (which is currently on fire!!). Holmar and Greg bring the party to the party. And the after party. And the after-after party. This LA debut will freak the party right. New Poker Flat up-and-comer CLINT STEWART of San Francisco, and Avalon resident and Harmonic’s own JAKE PATRICK will open what should prove to be a memorable day of musical fun in the sun. For discounted admission ($10 b4 2pm, $15 b4 3), rsvpharmonic@gmail.com. Bring your fancy footwork. (via Harmonic Productions)

[New Release] You Won - Remixes (Nurvous Records)

[New Release] Nurvous Records releases ‘You Won’ Remixes (actually, just one remix) originally by NYCPARTYINFO. The single remix is by Lazaro Casanova and is incredibly different than the original. Don’t know if any of you recognize the line, but the melody from the original mix is a pull from an old jazz standard called Caravan (composed by Juan Tizol & performed by in the youtube video below by Duke Ellington’s Orchestra in 1952). Love the remix, check it out.

[New Release] Daniel Bortz & Sascha Sibler - Color of Love/Fantasy EP (Souvenir Music)

[New Release] Daniel Bortz & Sascha Sibler have released their new EP “Color of Love/Fantasy” on Souvenir Music imprint this week.  Deep bass-lines and soulful vocal samples make this EP great late night music. Judging from their catalogue of great releases, it’s obvious that Souvenir/Daniel & Sascha know what they are doing.

[New Release] Michael McLardy - Oslo Nights EP (ALiVE Recordings)

[New Release] Michael McLardy releases his new EP ‘Oslo Nights’ on ALiVE Recordings including remixes by Lazaro Casanova and Bubba. Look no further than the first track, ‘Deep Nothing’, for a classic vocal sample weaved seductively over a deep house groove. On the remix, Lazaro Casanova draws inspiration from the moustache sporting Motownians of the early 80s, reworking the track with analogue bass and a trusty 808. Title track, ‘Oslo Nights’, follows in the same vein, equally deep but oozing with funk. Label favourite, Bubba, turns out the remix which will please fans of bass heavy, tripped out, dubby grooves.

[New Release] Volta Cab - Trapped in Illusion (Audio Parallax Records)

Volta Cab.

You’ve all heard of him by now, yeah?

You haven’t? Really? Honestly?…Well, my Mothers heard of Volta Cab - so just think about that.

With releases already under his belt on the likes of Solardisco, Diner City Sound and Apersonal Music - Volta Cab’s career is moving incredibly fast - a testament to what Soundcloud can do for an artist. We approached Mr. Cab when things had just started to speed up for him - would have been nice to put these tracks out a little sooner, but there you go. We tend to try to promote ‘undiscovered’ talent - but it’s also really nice seeing someone flourish without our assistance. And flourish he has!

If you follow him on Soundcloud you’ll know that not only is he incredibly productive (two or three tracks a week, pretty much without fail), but more to the point you’ll know he’s also VERY consistent. His range stretches from Balearic Disco to sample heavy, stripped back Deep House to old school dubby garage - and each and every time, he just gets it right.

What we have here is probably more the Balearic Disco side of Volta’s repertoire. Three tracks that positively drip tanning oil. This is Yacht music - beach music.

This is summer, via Russia.

[New Mix] Simon Baker - Back to My Wigwam Mix (Soul Clap Podcast Series)

[New Mix] Rather than give a synopsis of this mix, I’d rather just show you the description from the recent upload by Simon Baker. Rather a cool back-story..

Soul Clap: Flashback Winter Music Conference 2008. In our hands, 100 copies of the first Soul Clap record a cute yellow 10″ called The Giraffe released on Airdrop. Now picture a backyard bbq at a bar formerly known as PS14 and a bunch of the world’s best DJs and America’s dance music industry wearing cheap sunglasses and getting their schmooze and booze on…

At the time we didn’t realize it, but looking back, Crazy Larry and Taimur + Fahad’s Cheap Sunglasses Party was probably the moment that American dance music came together to form the movement it is today and we were there, wet around the ears and giving out copies of our vinyl to our idols.

So what does this winding story have to do with this Episode of The Adventures of Soul Clap? One of characters we met was a DJ named Simon Baker from Leeds, UK. Maybe you’ve heard of him? He had one of the bombs of 2007 in Plastik and just released an awesome album on 20:20 Vision?! Well, we were overjoyed to get him a copy of The Giraffe and not only was he sweet enough to sit down, have a chat and offer words of encouragement, but we immediately bonded and partied together a few weeks later in New York.

Since then Simon has always been one of our biggest supporters. From charting our tracks to coming to hang at our first gig in Leeds with all of 30 other people, Mr. Baker has been what the brits call a “legend, mate”. So when he asked to do us a podcast we were honored to have him on board and boy did he deliver with a mix of perfectly chilled morning house to take you back to your wigwam. And let us tell you, after a weekend staying in a Wigwam at Glastonbury we know just what he’s talking about when he says:

“This mix is based on the kinda vibes i would typically play back at my wigwam after hours, or just generally when i am in a nice deep and groovy sunny mood. I like wigwams, and i love merry go rounds even more… enjoy” Simon.

[New Release] Ezequiel Sanchez - In My Bed (Nordik Net Records)

[New Release] Italian imprint Nordik Net Records releases ‘In My Bed EP’ by Ezequiel Sanchez. This label has been putting out some really amazing stuff lately with an all star cast of producers and remixers. Ezequiel Sanchez’s newest is no different. Super deep percussive grooves dominate this release. I thought we’d try to balance out the abundance of ‘happy’ music we’ve been posting here with some dark deep shit. ‘In My Bed’ features vocals from Ann Santos that creep through the track with breathy sexiness. I think it’s the highlight of the release followed by ‘Five Miles in a Day’ and Cintia Dedicate’s remix of ‘With You I’m Born Again’. Take a listen through the beatport player below.
